India score well in a rain shortened Match ..

India has posted a competitive 5-195 from 29 overs in the rain-shortened Commonwealth Bank Series clash with Sri Lanka in the nation's capital.

Young gun Rohit Sharma continue to impress in compiling an unbeaten 70 from just 64 balls, including six boundaries, while Gautam Gambhir provided solid support with a quick-fire 35.

Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene inserted the Indians after a frustrating weather delay but openers Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar looked ominous early.

Sehwag (14) was the first to depart when he flashed a wide delivery straight to Muttiah Muralidaran on the third-man boundary off the bowling of Nuwan Kulasekara (1-41) to leave India at 1-45 in the eighth over.

Disaster struck in the very next over when Tendulkar (32) also picked out third man on the boundary rope as he attempted to dispatch Farveez Maharoof (1-33) to the mid-wicket fence.

The departure of both openers saw the run rate slow as in-form left-hander Gambhir and Sharma looked to steady the ship.

Gambhir, a century maker against Australian in Brisbane last week, soon hit his stride to steer the Indians into triple figures with 10 overs remaining before some sharp work from Tillakaratne Dilshan and Lasith Malinga brought and end to his knock.

The dismissal brought skipper MS Dhoni to the crease who combined with Sharma for a rapid 68 runs for the fourth wicket before he too was caught short of his crease for a well-played 31 from 26 balls.

Yuvraj Singh (6) was the last man to fall, deceived by a change of pace from Malinga to offer Muralidaran a simple chance at extra cover with the score at 5-192.
