A rejuvenated Adam Gilchrist says
Selectors are still yet to settle on the make-up of the bowling battery for the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which starts Wednesday.
The options are a four-man pace outfit - with spearhead Brett Lee to be accompanied by Stuart Clark, Mitchell Johnson and Shaun Tait - or three quicks and left-arm spinner Brad Hogg.
Gilchrist, who will don pink gloves for the clash in a bid to raise money and awareness for breast cancer, said conditions would play a key part in the final call.
"We've definitely got the arsenal to warrant four quick bowlers if conditions suit," Gilchrist told the media in
"That's not a blight on the spin bowling, we're saying here in this squad we have a four-prong pace attack that would warrant selection but you have got to have the right conditions."
"We have a world-class spin bowler in Brad Hogg, he has proven that in one-day cricket and he is very excited about the opportunity to try and prove that he deserves to play Test cricket."
When quizzed on his the balance of the side, Gilchrist said: "As a general rule I have always thought a spin bowler in a Test team is very well balanced as an option but it depends on the conditions."
The veteran stumper, who enters his ninth Test at the hallowed ground needing five dismissals to pass the all-time Australian mark of 395 set by Ian Healy, believes
"Statistically that batting line-up has to be one of the best
"Hopefully we have our plans right and our preparation right."
On a personal front, the brutal left-hander said he had no score to settle against the Indians, despite averaging just 29.95 against them compared to a career Test average that sits a pinch below 50.
"I didn't know that stat and it hasn't worried me to this point of time and I won't be losing any sleep over it tonight."
"There is no box left unticked. I have scored a couple of hundreds against them in very, very difficult circumstances."
"I, personally, am not too worried if my stats stack up against any opponent, it is about what is required at the time."
