Kumble registers a famous win in Kotla …

India registered an excellent six-wicket victory against Pakistan to take 1-0 lead in the 3-match Test series on the fifth and the final day of the first Test match here at the Ferozeshah Kotla on Monday.

Resuming at an overnight total of 171-3, needing just 32 more runs to win, Sachin Tendulkar made a determined start and reached his half-century, playing his characteristic strokes to lead the team to their seven consecutive win at the Kotla.

However, the other overnight batsman Sourav Ganguly failed to make his half-century as Shoaib Akhtar successfully removed him at his overnight score of 48 to be caught by Sohail Tanvir at long leg.

But at the end India comfortably achieved the target in style with Tendulkar hitting the winning runs for the hosts.

Earlier , opener Dinesh Karthik caught behind to reduce the hosts to 2-1 in the very first over of their second innings. But Dravid and Jaffer shared an 82-run partnership for the second wicket to put India's run chase back on track.

The fall of Jaffer's wicket, however, pegged the hosts back with Akhtar bowling a fiery spell, operating at speeds in excess of 90 mph.

With the ball beginning to reverse, Akhtar was rewarded for his probing spell immediately after tea when he bowled Dravid with a peach that snuck through his defence for 34.

Good show by India.
But can they sustain it?
